La'gad 002 – a rare pallasite from Western Sahara
The La'gad 002 meteorite is a rare pallasite, discovered in 2004 in Western Sahara, specifically in the Saguia el Hamra region, near Al Mahbas. Marketed under the name “Al Mahbas,” this meteorite has a total mass of larger fragments in the order of several kilograms, while less than 100 grams of intact pieces were found. It is characterized by a dark surface with visible olivine grains. It consists of approximately 70% metal and 20% olivine, complemented by troilite and schreibersite.In the meteorite database, only 16.6 grams are listed for La'gad 002, as only a small sample was provided for classification, which increased its collector value. The actual total mass of the meteorite remains unknown.
