Cut Moldavite – a Czech gemstone of cosmic origin
Cut Moldavite is a symbol of elegance, uniqueness, and natural origin. It was formed approximately 14.8 million years ago during the impact of a massive meteorite in what is now Bavaria (Ries crater). During this event, the Earth's surface melted and was ejected into the atmosphere, where it solidified and fell back to the area of South Bohemia. This extraordinary moment created natural glass with a distinctive olive-green hue, which, after cutting and polishing, becomes a sparkling gemstone.
Appearance and properties
Cut moldavites vary in shade, clarity, and intensity of green color. Thanks to precise faceting, their natural luster and inner structure beautifully reflect light in all directions.
Use and significance
Cut moldavites are primarily used in jewelry making, but are also highly sought after by collectors for their origin and connection to the meteorite impact. This Czech gemstone is rightly regarded as a jewel of cosmic origin.
