Tiglit – Rare Aubrite Meteorite from Morocco
Tiglit is a rare meteorite of the aubrite type, which was observed falling on December 9, 2021, in southern Morocco, near the village of Tiglit. Aubrites are achondritic meteorites rich in enstatite, suggesting their origin from an enstatite-rich asteroid. The total recovered mass of Tiglit fragments is approximately 2.2 kg.
The meteorites have a fragile structure and are covered with a multi-colored fusion crust in shades of green, orange, and brown. The interior composition consists mainly of enstatite with traces of diopside and olivine. Because of its pale appearance, Tiglit is often referred to as a "lunar imposter", since it may resemble lunar meteorites, although its origin is different.
