Dyrosaurus phosphaticus – Thoracic Vertebrae
Dyrosaurus phosphaticus was an extinct aquatic reptile that closely resembled modern crocodiles. It possessed long, slender jaws lined with sharp teeth, perfectly adapted for catching fish. Dyrosaurids were among the few groups of marine reptiles that survived the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period.
About the Species
These remarkable animals lived from the Late Cretaceous to the Eocene, and their fossils have been discovered on nearly every continent. They typically reached lengths of 4 to 6 metres, although exceptional individuals could grow up to 9 metres long.
The Offered Specimen
This specimen consists of thoracic vertebrae of Dyrosaurus phosphaticus from Morocco. Neither the fossil nor the surrounding rock has been artificially restored or reconstructed; the specimen has only undergone partial conservation. The bone material is well preserved, giving the fossil an authentic natural appearance.
