Tiger’s eye
Tiger’s eye is a natural variety of quartz known for its characteristic golden-brown color and distinctive optical effect called chatoyancy. This optical phenomenon creates a narrow band of reflected light that appears to move across the surface of the stone as it is turned. Color shades range from light golden to dark brown, often with natural transitions and patterns.
Formation of tiger’s eye
Tiger’s eye formed through the transformation of the original mineral crocidolite, which was gradually replaced by silicon dioxide. During this process, the original internal structure of the mineral was preserved, allowing the characteristic optical effect to develop. The golden-brown coloration is caused by the presence of iron oxides.
Mineralogical properties
Tiger’s eye belongs to the quartz group and has a hardness of approximately 7 on the Mohs scale. It occurs in compact form and is valued mainly for its characteristic optical effect and distinctive coloration.
