Chalcopyrite
Chalcopyrite (CuFe₂S) is a natural copper-iron sulfide and one of the most important copper ores. It is characterized by its brass-yellow coloration, while its surface may develop distinctive iridescent tarnish in shades of blue, purple, and green. Chalcopyrite occurs as individual crystals and irregular aggregates.
Our collection features natural chalcopyrite specimens from Mexico and Chile. Individual collector specimens vary in size, structure, crystal formation, and surface coloration. Chalcopyrite is an interesting addition to mineral collections, particularly those focused on sulfide minerals and copper ores.
