Pyrite iron cross

Pyrite iron crosses are unusual natural crystal intergrowths characterized by their distinctive cross-shaped geometry. These specimens have undergone pseudomorphism, a geological process in which the original pyrite was partially or completely replaced by goethite while preserving its characteristic crystal shape. The result is a striking dark brown to nearly black formation with sharp edges and a remarkable crystalline structure.

Our collection features natural pyrite iron crosses from Gachalá, Cundinamarca, Colombia. Individual specimens vary in size, degree of mineral replacement, and arrangement of intergrown crystals. These pseudomorphs are fascinating collector specimens illustrating how one mineral can replace another while retaining its original external form.
