Pyrite – The Mineral That Resembles Gold

During industrial processing, sulfur dioxide was extracted from pyrite and used in the manufacture of sulfuric acid, which remains one of the most important chemicals used in fertilizers, cleaning products, dyes, and pharmaceuticals.
Today, pyrite is primarily valued as a collector's mineral and decorative stone. Well-formed crystals and polished specimens are popular among collectors and are also used in jewelry and educational collections. Some pyrite deposits contain trace amounts of gold and other valuable metals, making them of geological interest.
